About Net Metering

Before we look at Net Metering, let’s see how the traditional electricity system works.

Electricity is generated from a large centralized power plant, like this nuclear power plant Pickering.

And this electricity is transmitted to businesses, and homes of Ontario through a network of overhead and underground cables known as the grid.

That’s how things have worked in the past. However, solar energy is changing everything. Earlier we had MicroFIT program which ended few years ago. We are now working with the Net Metering program. So, let’s look at Net Metering. >>>

Now let’s see how Net Metering works.

A Net Metering agreement is an administrative and billing agreement to track and bill the electricity one uses from the grid and the electricity one feeds to the grid. It allows us to effectively ‘run our electrical meter backwards’ to zero net electricity. This means if our renewable energy system produces more electricity during the day than we can feed that extra electricity to the grid for a credit on the hydro bill.
If you would like to get more information and book a spot for yourself, contact Deeva Solar today to learn how you can take advantage of this limited opportunity and install a quality solar system on your rooftop.

To encourage the generation of clean electricity, the Ontario government started the MicroFIT program and now has shifted to the Net Metering program.

In typical settings a large power plant feeds electricity to the homes and businesses as illustrated here.
